Ghana National Gas Company, the country's premier midstream gas business company and currently a fully integrated gas company, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Ghana Gas was established in July 2011 and began operations in November 2014. The company began operations and management in a temporal rented house at No. 10 Drake Avenue in Accra as its head office. With the passage of time, the company has seen tremendous growth and expansion in its facilities and human resource. Ghana Gas can now boast of a world class permanent head office at Osibisa Close, an ultra-modern state of the art operational office at AB Bokazo and other operational stations.
In April 2017, the operations of the GPP were fully taken over by indigenous Ghanaian staff of Ghana Gas from its contractor SINOPEC. This remarkable feat was made possible under the able leadership of Dr. Ben K D Asante
The week-long celebration began with staff and management engaging indigenes of the project affected communities in sports and entertainment. This was followed with Thanksgiving service, Traditional Night, and a Carols and Anniversary Day.
Speaking at the Carols and Anniversary Day, Dr. Ben K D Asante, CEO, Ghana Gas, used the opportunity to thank past and present board members, management and staff for their effort in helping Ghana Gas attain this feat.
“The history of Ghana Gas cannot be written without acknowledging the ideas, time and energies of our past and present Board members, Management and Staff without whom this journey would have been impossible.” He stated.
Dr. Ben Asante highlighted some of the construction projects that Ghana Gas plans to undertake in the future.
"As we move forward in 2022, we will be looking at certain major projects that will improve on what we started with. Our Gas Processing facility will be expanded to three times its current capacity. GPP train 2 project will commence and be completed in phases 2A and 2B and will have a capacity of 300mmscf. We're also building an onshore pipeline that will run parallel to the West African Gas pipeline, providing some operational flexibility and liability. This is known as the Takoradi – Tema onshore pipeline, and it's about 280 kilometers long. We extending our pipeline from the processing facility all the way towards the border of Ivory Coast to provide our neighbours gas for power generation. we are going to be extending the pipeline from Nyinahin to Kumasi.Finally, in Axim, we are building an LPG bottling plant," He said.
Dr. Ben Asante also unveiled the "Gas School," an innovative project by Ghana Gas. He noted that the school will not just train Ghana Gas employees, but also others in the industry and the entire sub region.
Dr. Ben Asante concluded by saying that the Gas School which will begin operation in 2022 will also provide tutelage across the Gas Value chain.
